Stacy’s journey began at Bury College University Centre when she enrolled on the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Social Science) programme.
Driven by a desire to study at degree-level, the Access course was ideal for Stacy. It provided her with a Level 3 qualification, which then meant that she could progress to the BA (Hons) Working with Children and Families (Top Up) degree.
“I knew that I wanted to go to university, and that I wanted to work with people, so the Access course was perfect. The tutors were fantastic and they guided me to further study which was suitable for me.”, says Stacy.
It was whilst working towards that degree that Stacy was inspired to become a teacher.
“My tutors inspired me to want to become a teacher - I looked at them and thought 'I want to do what you're doing'. I want to do something meaningful and help people in the same way I've been helped.”, she adds.
After completing her studies, with a newly developed skillset and a clear goal in mind, Stacy secured a job as an Educational Support Worker at Bury College.
She is currently thriving in that role, alongside studying for her Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Bury College University Centre. This course will allow Stacy to realise her dream of becoming a teacher in the future.
“My courses gave me the skills I needed to become an Educational Support Worker. I support young people with additional needs, which, along with my PGCE, will help me become a good teacher.”
Many of the courses on offer at Bury College University Centre can be completed in just one year and students benefit from experienced tutors, smaller class sizes and lower tuition fees compared to other universities.
