The Green College Commitment
Bury College is on the journey to achieving the Green College Commitment and is focused on embedding green and sustainable technologies throughout the curriculum.
Good practice in education for sustainability is embraced throughout teaching, learning, and assessment.

Bury College proudly marked Green Week 2025 with a series of impactful sustainability initiatives across campus. Over the course of the week:
- 201 trees and more than 194 flowers—including Maple, Cherry, Birch, Pansies, and more—were planted, helping to save an estimated 5,025 kg of CO₂e annually.
- 120 new dry mixed recycling bins were introduced, making it easier for everyone to recycle correctly. Separate food waste bins will soon be available in dining areas and staff rooms.
- 65 students in 6 groups collected an impressive 63 kg of litter from around campus.
- 43 staff members commuted using green travel options, saving a total of 1,110.8 miles and reducing carbon emissions by 870 kg CO₂e.
- The College hosted a successful Bike Day with free service and maintenance checks provided by the National Cycling Association (NCA).
- Bury College also participated in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, supporting local biodiversity.

Bury College is also proud to have been awarded Approved Travel Plan Modeshift STARS accreditation for efforts to increase levels of walking, cycling and other forms of sustainable travel.
