On Monday 9th February, Bury College’s Hairdressing Apprentices came together for a charity Blowdryathon, raising almost £500 for Little Lady Locks during National Apprenticeship Week!

A showcase of skill and community spirit

The event was hosted at the College’s Hair and Beauty Centre and saw Apprentices provide blow-dry and styling services to the public, as well as staff and students, in exchange for donations for their chosen charity, Little Lady Locks. The funds raised will support the charity in providing free wigs to children experiencing hair loss.

The Little Lady Locks Team commented “What an amazing day! We can’t thank Bury College enough for all the help and support for our charity. The learners are incredible and so talented!

For learners, the Blowdryathon was a chance to put the knowledge developed on their Apprenticeship programme into practice, while making a meaningful impact.

Kelly Platt, Learning and Skills Coach for Hairdressing at Bury College, expressed her pride, “I'm so proud of what our Apprentices have achieved today. It's been a brilliant opportunity for them to use their skills to give back to the local community.

Hairdressing Apprentice, Lyla Wells, added, “It’s been nice to give back to charity at the same time as doing what we love. It’s really brought everyone together.

Recognising the importance of Apprentices

Bury College’s Blowdryathon was not only a fundraising success, it also served as a platform to celebrate and empower Apprentices, allowing them to further develop their expertise and build their confidence.

Bury College would like to say a huge well done to all Apprentices that took part in this special event, as well as thank everyone who donated and supported them.
