National Apprenticeship Week was an exciting and inspiring time at Bury College, filled with activities that helped mark the occasion and celebrate the exceptional talent, dedication and achievements of Apprentices.
An ambitious early years educator has the skills to make a difference to the lives of others and achieve her dream job after securing a degree at Bury College University Centre.
Jhelita Seaton is delighted to have successfully gained a Working with Children and Families BA (Hons) Degree and is now on the road to a rewarding career within social work. Jhelita has always had a passion for working with young people and started her career as a Teaching Assistant at a Primary School in Bolton before moving onto the role of Assistant Welfare Officer at a family unit which houses individuals under the age of 25.
25-year-old Jheltia chose Bury College University Centre to gain a higher-level industry recognised qualification that could lead her to achieving her long-term career goal. During the three-year degree, Jhelita started working as a Deputy Manager of the two-year-old provision at a Bolton Primary School and feels the knowledge and experience she gained during her course helped her to secure this managerial position.
Jhelita said, “I chose Bury College University Centre because I felt it had a very supportive and friendly environment. I am now looking forward to a career in social work and making a difference to the lives of children and young people. The different modules that I have studied on this course has really prepared me for the workplace. The practical elements combined with the theory has prepared me for the real-life scenarios. I now have the knowledge and ability to make a difference.”
Joanne Cherrie, Head of Curriculum for Early Years and Childcare added, “The Working with Children and Families degree provides many excellent career opportunities within the community sector. Jhelita has been a fantastic student and it has been a pleasure to see how she has engaged in all the modules, developing her learning and most importantly the work placement opportunities that she has experienced that have supported her progression into Social Work.”
