National Apprenticeship Week was an exciting and inspiring time at Bury College, filled with activities that helped mark the occasion and celebrate the exceptional talent, dedication and achievements of Apprentices.
When Ismail Hussein Aden first joined Bury College in 2019, he was not only new to the College, but also to life in the UK.
Over the following four years, he developed his knowledge in the Accountancy world progressing from a Level 1 course. Ismail is now employed as an apprentice at Great Places Housing Group whilst undertaking his AAT Level 3 Accounting Diploma. In addition to his Accounting qualifications, he also completed Level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English before completing GCSE’s in the same subjects.
Shaun Edwards, Securitisation Portfolio Manager at Great Places Housing Group and Ismail’s Line Manager, said: “Over six months, Ismail has really developed. He’s had exposure to many areas of finance which include Accounts Payable, Receivable, Finance Systems, Treasury, Securitisation and Service Charges. He is now working with our Management Accountants to coincide with his current module. On a personal level, Ismail is polite, he has a good work ethic and is growing in confidence each day. He has a clear view of what he wants to achieve during his apprenticeship, and I’m happy to assist in his pursuit.”
Steven Molyneux, Future Talent and Succession Specialist at Great Places Housing, spoke about the benefits of hiring an apprentice. He added: “Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity for someone to start their career, and it’s a pleasure to see them enhance their experience and knowledge throughout the programme. My advice would be to make sure all parties are involved in the apprenticeship from the beginning. Good communication, trust and teamwork are also essential for an apprentice’s growth and development.”
Kathryn Wyre, Ismail’s tutor, was full of pride when discussing his progress. She said: “Ismail is committed to learning, and his passion and drive are clear from everything he has already achieved."
Ismail was thankful to everyone who has helped him progress this far. He said: “I have enjoyed every minute of my time at Bury College. I have learnt so much, and there are many helpful tutors, including my Learning and Skills Coach.”
