Cambridge Technical is a popular qualification that has a wide choice of units, that incorporate practical activities and develops transferable skills ready for the workplace. This course will develop your understanding of several key areas of IT and help you apply it in practical, work-related assignment scenarios.
Four or more GCSEs at grade 9-3 (A*-D) including maths and English and IT (if studied), or a Pass at BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT
A full time one year course starting in September.
You will complete a combination of mandatory and optional units. All units are assessed by coursework assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. Mandatory Units • Communicating in the IT Industry • Working in the IT Industry Optional Units • Installing Computer Hardware • Developing Computer Games • Computer Graphics • Database Systems • Website Development Each unit will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
To be successful in the IT industry, you need to be organised, methodical and be able to manage a number of deadlines. You will also work within teams, and be able to develop relationships with people from a variety of different industries. English and communication skills are particularly important, as you need to be able to listen carefully and identify the needs of the client. You will have to describe problems and solutions in detail and be able to clearly present your findings verbally or by writing a report. Interpreting responses are critical feedback so that projects can be improved. Carrying out calculations and problem solving is a daily feature when working within the IT industry. This can be diagnosing technical issues or creating programmes that provide a solution. A logical and systematic approach is required in all career paths as well as ensuring accuracy throughout.
At Bury College you will benefit from work experience as an essential element of your study programme. You will be supported to secure a five day work experience placement allowing you to gain hands-on work based industry skills.
Your IT Study Programme will support your personal development to ensure that you make progress and acquire the necessary skills for successful progression. You will have opportunities to study for industry recognised qualifications, and opportunity to take part in team fund raising activities, sport enrichment, visits and careers events.
