Overview of the Course

New Horizons is a specialist provision for students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and Autism. It is designed to help every student achieve their full potential; this is done through a combination of rigorous assessment, bespoke timetabling and person centred planning.

Where appropriate, you may progress onto a pre-entry programme or adult services.

What are the entry requirements?

Entry is subject to interview, school reference, EHCP (if applicable) and an initial assessment. The curriculum is tailored around the student group and individual outcomes.

How long is the course and when can I start?

A full-time one-year course starting in September.

How is the course structured and how will I be assessed?

Our curriculum includes Entry 1 Preparation, practical life skills, multi-sensory learning and community based activities. It encourages you to learn through interaction. The relationships you form with familiar staff allows us to learn about your abilities, motivations, communication methods and preferences to teach you new skills in a structured, supportive way. You are assessed through a range of assessment tools and observation.

What employability skills will I develop on this course?

You will gain specific and transferable employability skills whilst in the course, which may include working as part of a team.

Work experience

You may participate in community based activities.

There will be trips, visits and practical sessions to develop you socially and academically.

Are there any additional costs or requirements?

There will be additional costs for trips and visits. Students on this course normally require an extended transition period.
