Overview of the Course

This course is designed for hairdressers wishing to develop advanced skills in specialist areas and is based around learning theory and knowledge and practising skills. An enthusiasm for hairdressing is essential, in addition to personal qualities of motivation, good communication and dexterity skills. Mature learners are welcome on this course.

Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing.

How long is the course and when can I start?

The course is for a duartion of one year and starts in September.

How is the course structured and how will I be assessed?

You will complete a comprehensive programme of study to enable you to achieve advanced and creative hairdressing skills. This course is based around learning the theory then developing the practical skills.You will be assessed by completion of continual practical assessments, oral questions, assignments, and online external tests. This course will also include a work placement.

Whilst on your Study Programme, you will achieve the technical skills in the following services:

  • Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety Practice in the Salon,
  • Hairdressing Consultation Support for Colleagues,
  • Cut Women’s Hair to Create a Variety of Looks,
  • Style and Dress Hair using a Variey of Techniques,
  • Colour Hair to Create a Variety of Looks, 
  • Perm Hair to Create a Variety of Looks,
  • Creative Hairdressing Design Skills,
  • Hair colour correction services.

What employability skills will I develop on this course?

You will gain a range of employability skills including customer service, dealing with diverse sectors of the public, organisation and time management skills, speaking and listening skills, written English language, maths/numeracy related skills including money, time and estimating.

Work experience

At Bury College you will benefit from work experience as an essential element of your study programme. You will be supported to secure a work experience placement allowing you to gain hands-on work based industry skills.

Study programme enrichment opportunities

Enrichment opportunities include: Competition classes, Master classes with industry experts, Employer input, Trips and visits to industry based activities, Inclusion in sporting/exercise activities, Tutorial sessions covering a range of topical issues including Prevent and British Values.

Are there any additional costs or requirements?

Additional costs include a Level 3 top up kit which will cost approximately £144 or full kit approximately £207. Female uniform will cost £48.75 and consists of a tunic, leggings and ballet shoes. Male uniform will cost £7.50 and consists of a polo shirt. Own smart black trousers and smart black shoes complete the uniform. No trainers or sports shoes are allowed. You should have excellent personal appearance and communication skills, a professional manner, good attitude and commitment to achieve on this course.
