This Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry is ideal for anyone who would like to work in the hospitality and catering sector.
You will be encouraged to develop and practise basic catering and food safety skills required for employment and/or career progression in the hospitality sector. By gaining an understanding of the hospitality industry you will be able to choose which direction you would like to progress in.
Three or more GCSEs at grades 9-1 (A*-G) including maths and English
A full-time one year course starting in September.
The course is structured into units that consist of assignments and a range of practical tests.

Practical tests are based around using different food items and cooking methods.
This qualification provides a real opportunity for you to gain work specific skills and knowledge in the catering industry. English and communication skills are particularly important, you need to be able to listen carefully to identify the needs of customers, respond effectively to questions in an open and friendly manner and maintain written records of work completed. Carrying out calculations is vital when working in the kitchen area. Recipes will be developed which will include yields, measurements and ratios. Whilst working in the restaurant or bistro you will develop cash handling skills.
Your Catering and Hospitality Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to Level 2 or an apprenticeship. You will have the opportunity to take part in external catering events, sport and fitness activities, visits to local employers and trips. Recently students have visited Milan, Italy.
There may be an additional cost for kitchen and restaurant uniform.
