Bury College - Information for Parents

We attach great importance to working with parents, to address challenges and remain successful.

At Bury College we aim to provide all our students with the support they need to develop and progress.  We understand that college years can be both exciting and challenging for students, with lots of hard work and decisions to be made along the way. Our committed and caring tutors aim to ensure your son or daughter has access to any help they may require during their time with us.  We also have a dedicated student services team and student learning mentors to provide advice and guidance, information and support.

By working together we can make it much easier for your son or daughter to rise to challenges and be successful.  We value a dialogue with parents to help students succeed and offer Parents' Evenings at which you can discuss the progress of your son or daughter with teaching staff.  There are also evenings organised to inform parents about higher education/career opportunities.  As a parent you will receive regular reports and are encouraged to contact the college at any time to discuss the progress of  your son or daughter.

What our parents say

“I would have no reservation recommending Bury College to other parents. Both my daughters are very happy with their course and tutors. They are thriving both academically and socially.”

Nina Young, mother of Holly and Emma Young former pupils of Holy Family, Heywood. Holly is studying a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and A Level English Literature, Emma studied AS Level English Language, Media, Fine Art and French.

“I have been extremely pleased with the support my daughter has received throughout her studies on the Foundation Degree in Early Years at Bury College. Sophie lacked real confidence when she commenced the first year of the Degree course having had no previous experience in Early Years or any real knowledge about the subject. However, because of all the support she has received from the tutors throughout the course, she has achieved some of the highest marks of the whole group and this has definitely left her feeling that there is no doubt she is going to achieve and will do well.

I will always so be grateful for the initial advice I received as parent from the team in helping me help Sophie make the decision on her pathway through Early Years and have never seen her so happy. The team organised for Sophie to have work placement at a local primary school and she absolutely loves the work she does at the school. I can honestly say she was born to be working with children and I cannot wait for her to reach her goal of becoming the “primary school teacher you never forget” – everyone has one!”

Mireille Mawdsley, mother of Sophie Mawdsley, former pupil of Tottington High School
studied a Foundation Degree in Early Years.
