Bury College student makes England College’s Rugby Squad - 02-Feb-2010
Bury College student Wynand Van Zyl, has successfully made it into the England College’s Rugby Squad.
Wynand moved from South Africa at the age of 16 to Rochdale and choose to come and study at Bury College. Currently studying on the Sport Diploma course at Bury College, Wynand took part in the Rugby enrichment programme ran by Performing Arts tutor Kenny Orr, joining many other college students in training and team games.
Whilst studying at Bury College Wynand has played for the North West Colleges Rugby Team and The North Colleges team. Unfortunately Wynand was injured last year which resulted in him not being able to attend trials. However, Wynand has made his come back this year to achieve outside centre position in the England College’s Rugby Team, showing that his determination has really paid off.
In addition to being a great Rugby player Wynand has also received student of the month at Bury College. Wyand spoke about his success; “I am really pleased to have made it into the England College’s team. The enrichment programme at Bury College has opened many opportunities for me and I have received a great deal of support and encouragement from all the staff at the college.”
Wynand decided to attend trials after being informed about them by his coach at Bury College, Kenny Orr.
Despite only living in the UK for several years Wynand has made it successfully into several of England’s rugby teams and clearly shown his talent within Rugby.
