Depending on your career aspirations and qualifications you will either complete a one year diploma or a two year extended diploma. We can discuss this with you at your interview. These are essential courses if you want to enter the dynamic and fast growing field of design and interactive media. They employ a highly desirable mix of creative and technical aspects that will prepare you for creative/professional higher education courses or employment. There are also excellent opportunities to work with industry professionals via keynote lecturers, visits and competitions and work placements/experience.
Figures value the UK creative industries as a whole at £76.9 billion a year – contributing an incredible £8.8 million to the UK economy every hour, and this figure is set to grow year on year as more content is demanded from the ever growing social media platforms and the huge audiences that they reach on a daily basis. On completion of this course you may progress onto university or employment in a diverse range of careers in the growing world of design and design led multimedia and photography. Career opportunities include: Art Education, games designer, graphic designer, art director, concept artist, environment artist, animator, creative manager, web designer, photographer, illustrator, advertising, social media and teaching.
You will need at least five GCSE grades A*-C to include Art or Design and English at grade 9-4 (A*-C) or a Merit at a Level 2 Art and Design course. Please bring a portfolio of Art & Deisng work to your interview. Please note – applicants who have a passion for Art and Design but who may not have had the opportunity to study an Art and Design GCSE at school will be considered for a place on these courses at interview along with suitable example of work.
A full-time one-year course starting in September, becoming two years if you progress onto the Extended Diploma.
You will study a wide range of topics including: Graphics, Computer Animation, 2D and 3D Illustration, Web Design, Video and Audio Studies, Interface Design, Product and Fashion Photography, Design Skills, Life Drawing, Advertising and Promotion. Drawing ability is important for computer designers and therefore life drawing is included as part of this course. You will need a strong desire to learn all aspects of design and interactive media, plus passion, enthusiasm and a creative mind. The course is broken down into several projects that you will complete over one or two years. Work is assessed by your tutors who will grade your work once it is complete. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback throughout the projects to help you aim for the highest grade possible.
You will learn a large range of industry standard software skills and techniques, the hardware and software we provide is 100% industry standard and in line with current industry expectations. As well as being a very visually stimulating and creative course, we grow and strengthen your written communication skills, and teach you employment skills such as team work and lateral thinking as well investigative and analytical research techniques. The course is very commercially lead with all briefs being firmly rooted in the games / design industry.
At Bury College you will benefit from woek exzperience as an essential element of your study programme. You will be supported to secure a five day work experience placement allowing you to gain hands-on work bades industry skills. Your Interactive Media Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to employment, an apprenticeship or higher education. You will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising events, sport and fitness activities, course related study visits and careers events.
You will be expected to provide your own drawing equipment and a portable hard drive (500 GB). You may need to buy art tools and a portfolio which shouldn’t cost more than £25. There may be additional costs for trips and visits throughout the course.
