|Course Title||UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design|
This course provides you with an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within Art and Design. During the course you will focus on a specialist pathway: Graphic Design, Fine Art, Photography, Textiles/Fashion or 3D.
This course provides an excellent opportunity to progress onto a university course pursuing your choice of specialism, whether that be Illustration, Photography, Interior Design, Fashion, Architecture or many more. In addition, you may choose to progress onto a career in Fine Art, Textiles, Graphic Design, Teaching, Curating or Advertising.
One A Level at Pass Grade or an equivalent Level 3 course, and 4 GCSEs Grades 9-4 (A*-C). Mature students will be assessed based on their creative portfolio and interview.
A one year full-time course starting in September.
The course is structured in three stages: Stage 1 – A thorough exploration of media, materials and techniques that encourages your creative development across a variety of Art and Design workshops. You will also have an opportunity to explore new technologies, such as laser cutting, sublimation printing and darkroom experimentation. Stage 2 – A personal specialisation in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Photography, Textiles/Fashion or 3D. Stage 3 – Working independently on a self-directed assignment concluding in an exhibition that showcases your final outcomes. The 7 units will be linked to a range of creative assignments through the year. These units allow you to develop your creative skills when using different materials and techniques, gaining confidence when reflecting and responding to the work of others, as well as developing a growing independence in your own personal expressiveness. You will have the opportunity to show your reflective understanding through a written or videoed dissertation.
Assessment will be continually used to support your creative growth and development. Work will be assessed through supportive one-to-one discussions with your specialised tutor, self-assessment, peer reviews, as well as assessment of final project submissions.
Work experience is an essential element of your Study Programme that will provide you with an opportunity to respond to live briefs. This will allow you to gain first hand exposure to the creative industries, start to develop key employability skills and most importantly confirm your career goals.
Your Art and Design Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to employment, an apprenticeship or higher education. You will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising events, sport and fitness activities, course related study visits and careers events.
There will be a £50 studio fee to be paid at the start of the year. This will cover basic materials and equipment.
