Overview of the Course

About the programme

This course provides an introduction to working on an existing nuclear site, including personnel within the nuclear supply chain who require unescorted access to existing nuclear sites and those being decommissioned. It gives participants an introduction to requirements for compliance, nuclear awareness and behaviours for working in the nuclear industry, and how their actions can have an impact on maintaining nuclear safety. All of the courses within the Triple Bar suite have been developed to Nuclear Industry Standards and can be recorded on the Nuclear Skills Passport.

The course can be delivered in 1 day or over 2 half days. We offer various start dates throughout the year, and can deliver in your workplace or at our town centre training facilities in Bury

Who is it aimed at?

All personnel working within the nuclear industry or nuclear industry supply chain who require unescorted access to an existing nuclear site or one being decommissioned.

Course content

 The three modules of the Triple Bar are:-

  • Working in the Nuclear Industry (BNI) – this module introduces the nuclear industry and what is important to know if you are working in it, including: UK’s nuclear Industry; radiological hazards; safety, the number one priority; legislation and regulations; quality requirements.
  • Going on Site (BNO) - this module covers some of the special arrangements you need to be aware of when working on a nuclear licensed site including: security and emergency arrangements; health & safety requirements; environmental and quality controls.
  • Safety on a Nuclear Site (BNS)this module introduces ways of putting safety into practice when working on a nuclear licensed site, including: behaving safely; recognising safe and unsafe conditions; healthy safety culture; lessons learned; common types of errors and tools to avoid them.

The course ends with a multiple choice exam.  On successful completion candidate receives a Certificate of Achievement that can be recorded on the NS4P and used as evidence for site induction requirements.
