Overview of the Course

This qualification provides an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in a variety of full and part-time support roles in schools. This includes administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as those roles that work directly with children and young people.

What topics will I study?

The topics covered include

  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people

Who is this course aimed at?

It is appropriate for learners not yet employed in a school.


It is an excellent starting point and will prepare students for further study should you wish to progress.

What are the entry requirements?

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment when you attend your enrolment.

8th, 9th and 14th, 15th and 22nd, 23rd and 29th, 30th Jan and 5th, 6th and 11th, 12th February


14th, 15th and 21st, 22nd May and 4th, 5th and 11th, 12th and 18th, 19th and 25th, 26th June


Mondays and Tuesday 9.30 – 3.00 pm (with ½ hour lunch)
