This programme offers you the opportunity to study a Higher National Diploma in Public Services with a particular focus on Law, Criminology, Psychology and Sociology which will give you the underpinning knowledge to enter into your chosen Public Service.
The Higher National Diploma in Public Services consists of modules covering high level government policy making and decisions down to ground level giving you an understanding of the key concepts employed by the Public Services on a day to day basis. The course has been set out to give you the best possible starting point to enter into your chosen Public Service giving not only the theoretical knowledge to succeed but the practical skills too.
The course places an emphasis on understanding people, communities and the law with a focus on practical skills to enter into the Public Services. The course will be assessed by coursework assignments with research tasks.
Throughout the programme you will have access to specialist tutors, workshops, and seminars to help to support you in developing the skills and knowledge.
The course you are undertaking is intended to enhance your employability giving you the academic background about the law, society and psychology.You will undertake a personal and professional development module further enhancing your employability skills in readiness for the workplace.

The Higher National Diploma in Public Services is coursework based which has no examinations. The students are assessed through a variety of written and in some cases verbal tasks. This assessment method has benefited those students who feel less comfortable with exams As part of the HND Public Services, we offer the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing, which is assessed by two short examinations. The CKP is a level 3 qualification designed to help those whose long term aim is to join the Police.
You will have the opportunity to undertake the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing alongside your Higher National Diploma (at an additional cost). The Certificate in Knowledge of Policing is widely accepted by Police Forces as a recognised policing qualification giving you underpinning knowledge when applying to the police.
All students receive an initial allocation of 600 credits per academic year for printing and photocopying, additional credits can be purchased if required. This course is validated by BTEC/Pearson Education.
