This qualification is ideal for you if you would like to continue your education through applied learning by developing your knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and global information systems. It is designed to be taken alongside other qualifications. Year one is equivalent to one AS, year two is equivalent to one A Level.
Achievement of this qualification can support progression to go on and study in a Higher Education institution either on relevant IT degrees such as Computing and Technology or Business IT. This qualification can also support progression on to other degree courses.
To study three AS Levels or two AS Levels and one Applied Qualification then the entry requirements are six GCSEs at or above grade C/4 including English, maths and ICT at or above grade C/5.
Should you wish to study four AS Levels the entry requirements are six GCSEs at or above grade C/4 including two subjects or more at or above grade C/5 and two subjects or more at or above B/6.
In addition to the above a minimum of 9 grade points are required from maths and English combined.
The course is a two year programme, starting in September, with the opportunity to take the Certificate in year one progressing to the Extended Certificate after one year.
In year one there will be two written exams and in year two there will be three coursework units or two coursework units and one written exam. The qualification is graded pass, merit or distinction. You will take two madatory units to achieve this qualification, Fundamentals of IT and Global information systems, both of which are externally assessed. The units provide you with an insight into the IT sector as you investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale and important legal and security considerations. Year 1 – 2 units include: Fundamentals of IT (exam to be taken in January) and Global Information (exam to be taken in May) Year 2 – 3 units include: Cyber Security (if taken, exam to be taken in January),Project Management*, Project Development*, Social Media and Digital Marketing*, Mobile Technology*,Developing a Smarter Planet*, Internet of Everything*, Big Data Analytics*, Systems Analysis and Design*, Internet of Everything*. * All these units will be assessed by coursework.
The Cambridge Technical Certificate provides opportunities to develop skills demanded by employers. These qualifications and units are structured to enable you to gain qualifications at your own pace and build on your achievements. You will also have the opportunity to acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as planning, research and analysis, working with others and effective communication.
Work experience is an essential element of your Study Programme and you will be supported to secure a five day work experience placement. This will allow you to gain first hand exposure to the sector you wish to work in, start to develop key employability skills and most importantly confirm your career goals.
Your Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to employment, an apprenticeship or higher education.
There are no additional costs to this course however a high-spec USB memory stick with a minimum 50GB capacity is invaluable for coursework purposes.
