Overview of the Course

This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers all aspects of specialist support including planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher.

  • Safeguarding the well-being of children and young people
  • Supporting learners with sensory and/or physical needs
  • Supporting learners with cognition and learning needs
  • Bilingual support for teaching and learning

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is designed for anyone interested in supporting children’s learning and working as, or considering working as, a Teaching Assistant.


You can progress onto a Foundation Degree. You may also chose to progress into employment as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Special Educational Needs Assistant.

What are the entry requirements?

A Level 2 qualification in a childcare related subject is preferred. You will be asked to complete an initial assessment when you attend your interview and a clear DBS is also required.

You will attend class once a week on a Tuesday from 6.30-8.30pm. You will also need to attend a placement in a school setting for a minimum of 12 hours a week.
