This is an advanced Beauty Therapy qualification, which will enable you to work in the industry as a Beauty Therapist. In addition, this course will provide a progression route to higher education, allowing the development of management skills and the opportunity to aim high in employment. You will gain the most up to date training and hands-on experience, giving you the best start to your career. A pleasant personality, good communication skills and a professional attitude to work are important qualities needed for this course.
You can progress into employment or onto higher education. Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as beauty salons, spas, hotels or health clubs. There is the opportunities for successful students to progress onto the higher education foundation degree course and the top-up BA (Hons.) in Beauty Management. The industry is keen to employ Beauty Therapist’s with advanced skills and management qualifications, with an expectation of a degree qualification being more common.
This is a progression course for Beauty Therapy students who have completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy.
A full-time one-year course starting in September.
The course includes six mandatory units and one optional unit. Assessment is by an end of year, externally set, theory exam and an externally set Practical Exam. In addition,you must also achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement, which will include compulsory, meaningful work experience in a beauty therapy establishment and actively partake in a range of other employer interactions in order to successfully achieve this qualification. Mandatory units include: Provide Body Massage, Provide Facial Electrotherapy Treatments, Provide Body Electrotherapy Treatments, Provide Dry Spa Treatments, Promote and sell products and services to clients, Anatomy and Physiology. Optional units include: Provide Electrical Epilation. Each unit will be graded Pass, Merit and Distinction.
The achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the essential technical skills, knowledge of health and safety and customer service to be employed as a beauty therapist. This qualification could lead to a job as a beauty therapist working in one of the following establishments: Beauty Salon, Spa, Health Club,Cruise Ship, Hotel. To be successful in a Beauty Therapy career, you will need to get on with people from all walks of life, enjoy working as part of a team and be prepared to constantly update your skills. English and communication skills are particularly important. You need to be able to speak and listen to people of all ages, gender and social backgrounds. English skills will be further developed and embedded within your study of the curriculum. Your understanding of maths will be put to the test when using the various electrical units, calculating timings and developing pricings of treatments, amongst other things.
This is an essential element of your Study Programme and you will be supported to ensure this takes place. You will be required to undertake two weeks structured work experience that develops skills and knowledge relevant to the qualification. This will allow you to gain exposure to the sector you wish to work in, start to develop the key employability skills and give you the opportunity to network with a view to gaining employment.
Employer involvement is a formal requirement of this qualification, which will enhance and enrich your knowledge and understanding of the industry. The information gained will also allow you to make an informed choice about your future employment. Trips and visits will be planned to support your achievement. A ‘World of Work’ week is also scheduled where new skills are introduced. Industry specialists are invited to keep you up to date with current trends.
You are required to buy a full uniform package that includes shoes and a watch.
