This course has been designed to meet the latest education reforms which are relevant to industry needs and are more rigorous with high quality practical learning. This qualification will also support your progress onto further education, university and employment. The skills include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting and colouring.
The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing could lead to a job as a Hairdresser working in one of the following establishments: Hairdressing salon, Hotel, Cruise Ship. On completion, your progression route could be a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering or an apprenticeship in a salon of your choice.
Three or more GCSE at grades A*-D, including maths and English at grade 9-3 (A*-D). Entry requirements as well as GCSE are Level 1 Hairdressing and Beauty, previous experience or 19+.
This is a one year course which starts in September.
You will complete the mandatory assessment components of a theory based exam and a practical synoptic assignment towards the end of the course and additionally, you will provide evidence of work experience. Whilst on your Study Programme, you will achieve the technical skills in the following services: Principles of practice of hairdressing, Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, Style, set and dress hair, Cut hair using basic techniques, Colour and lighten hair. In addition, English and maths GCSEs depending on entry grades or age.
During the course you will develop a range of skills including customer service skills, dealing with diverse sectors of the public, organisation and time management skills, speaking and listening skills, written English language, maths/numeracy related money, time and estimating.
You will complete structured work experience with monitoring visits from Bury College. A record will be kept for all your evidence whilst out on placement.

A Level 2 kit will cost approximately £150.00 A female uniform will cost £48.75 and consists of a tunic, leggings and ballet shoes. A male uniform will cost £7.50 and consists of a polo shirt. Own smart black trousers and smart black shoes complete the uniform. No trainers or sports shoes are allowed. You should have excellent personal appearance and communication skills, a professional manner, good attitude and commitment to achieve on this course.
