This is a one year course covering all aspects of hairdressing skills to enable progression to a Junior Stylist in industry. An enthusiasm for hairdressing is essential, in addition to personal qualities of motivation, good communication and dexterity skills. Mature students are welcome on this course. The skills include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, dressing and setting hair, cutting, perming and colouring.
The Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing could lead to a job as a Hairdresser working in one of the following establishments: Hairdressing salon, Hotel, Cruise Ship. On completion, your progression route could be a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering or an apprenticeship in a salon of your choice.
Three or more GCSE at grades A*-D, including maths and English at grade A*-D (9-3 ). Entry requirements as well as GCSE are Level 1 Hairdressing and Beauty, previous experience or 19+
This course is for a duration of one year course starting in September 2017.
You will complete a comprehensive programme of study to enable you to achieve up-to-date hairdressing skills. This course is based around learning the theory then developing the practical skills. You will be assessed by completion of continual practical assessments, oral questions, assignments, and online external tests. Each module will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Whilst on your Study Programme, you will achieve the technical skills in the following services: Reception Duties, Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp, Consultation, Promoting Products and Services, The Art of Dressing Hair, Creating an Image Based on a Theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector, Cutting, Perming, Colour, Health and Safety, Colour and lighten hair. In addition, English and maths GCSEs depending on entry grades or age.
You will develop a wide range of skills including: Customer service, dealing with diverse sectors of the public, organisation and time management skills, speaking and listening skills, written English language, maths/numeracy related money, time and estimating.
You will complete structured work experience with monitoring visits from Bury College. A record will be kept for all your evidence whilst out on placement.

Additional costs include a Level 2 kit which will cost approximately £150.00. Female uniform will cost £48.75 and consists of a tunic, leggings and ballet shoes. Male uniform will cost £7.50 and consists of a polo shirt. Own smart black trousers and smart black shoes complete the uniform. No trainers or sports shoes are allowed. You should have excellent personal appearance and communication skills, a professional manner, good attitude and commitment to achieve on this course.
