|Course Title||Level 2 Award and Diploma in Music Performance and Production|
The course is designed to give you an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to explore, enhance and sustain your creative development. Following a diagnostic introduction, which will determine your skill set and experience, you will then develop your understanding of music performance and production. By the end of the course it is expected that you will take greater ownership of your learning, through a process of discussion and evaluation. You will also demonstrate your individual expression of artistic and technical competence and creativity. Emphasis is placed on providing you with an experience which draws on the realities for the industry, with you being treated as a young professional and encouraged to take increasing responsibility for your own learning and development. You will study units such as; Introduction to Music Performance and Music Production, Listening Skills for Music Performance/Production, Music Performance/Production Skills and Practice and complete a Music Performance/Production Project.
Future careers may include; Career Musicians, Performer, Music Teacher, Music Technician, Producer, Promoter, Composer and Arranger.
Four GCSE grade A*-D (9-3) and have a degree of instrumental/technical ability (roughly Grade 4 standard), plus a successful audition (performers) and 500 word written assignment.
This is a full-time one year course starting in September.
The course consists of a range of mandatory and specialist optional units studied during the year. You will be assessed by assignments set over projects and given an indication of what grade you are working towards. The final graded unit will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. All internal assessment and grading decisions are subjected to external moderation.
To be successful in the music industry you will need to get on with people from all walks of life, enjoy being part of a team, as well as working well on your own, whilst meeting deadlines. You will also be good at solving problems, using computer software, understanding instructions, getting things done on time and making decisions and working under pressure. English and communication skills are particularly important, you need to be able to listen carefully to identify the needs of stakeholders, respond effectively to questions in an open and friendly manner and maintain written records of work completed. Carrying out calculations and problem solving is a daily feature of working in the music industry. You will need to be able to accurately calculate the cost of materials, resources and recording requirements and work to critical project timelines. You will also need to apply maths to prepare estimates and final costings for your income and expenditure during your career.
Work experience is an essential element of your Study Programme and you will be supported to secure meaningful work experience opportunities throughout the course. This will allow you to gain first hand exposure to the sector you wish to work in, start to develop key employability skills and most importantly confirm your career goals.
Your Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to employment, an apprenticeship or higher education. You will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising events, and extra curricula activities, course related visits from industry experts and careers events. There will be opportunities to go to gigs and perform in a variety of venues.

Professionals from one of the UKs leading institutions for performing arts visited Bury College vocational students to equip them with the skills needed to progress directly into employment.
Students formed a total of 12 bands and performed to their peers using their fantastic vocal and instrumental abilities. The End of Year Gig went towards their end of year assessment where they were marked in a range of areas including performance and crowd interaction.
