Overview of the Course

This flexible qualification is designed to provide aspiring middle managers and first line managers, who have a mixture of operational and higher level responsibilities, with the key principles of leadership and management. The content of the course covers the ILM Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management and an NVQ Diploma to achieve the full award. Both are achieved through a combination of mandatory and optional credits. Mandatory units include: Manage Personal and Professional Development, Provide Leadership and Management, Develop and Implement an Operational Plan, Develop Working relationships with Stakeholders. Optional units include: Chair and Lead Meetings, Initiate and Implement Operational Change, Manage a Budget, Manage a Project, Manage Customer Service Operations. Management functions hold an important role within any business or organisation. This apprenticeship will work at management level to work effectively with leadership and direction, information systems, contracts and tenders, change and innovation and business processes and problems. This course will involve 20% of your time to be dedicated to off the job training.

A Level 3 qualification e.g. A Levels, Advanced Apprenticeship, BTEC or Access to Higher Education.

This qualification develops the underpinning knowledge required to effectively perform the tasks required of middle managers. The qualification’s core themes are understanding the management role to improve performance and planning and leading a complex team activity which are enhanced with a variety of optional management specialisms that will benefit learners in a management role.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are a vital part of your apprenticeship. They provide the essential knowledge, skills and understanding needed to operate confidently, effectively and independently. Functional skills are available at Level 1 and Level 2 and the level you will work towards will depend on the previous qualifications you have achieved, the results of an assessment prior to your apprenticeship and the requirements of the apprenticeship you are completing. If you have not already achieved Level 2 English and maths you must study for and take the tests for Level 2 English and maths and achieve Level 1 English and maths for Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Assessment

Mandatory classes will take place to deliver the ILM Principle units. As well as an initial assessment to determine current learning level, the assessor will visit on a regular basis and support you with developing your electronic portfolio which consists of knowledge and competence units within the NVQ. At these meetings assessment methods will take place including; observations, professional discussions, question and answer sessions and regular performance reviews.
