This course is designed for newcomers to the industry to give you an insight into Beauty Therapy. It allows you to study at a steady pace whilst developing personal and academic skills. Enthusiasm for Beauty Therapy is essential. Pleasant personality and good communication skills are important qualities needed for the course.
Successful completion of Level 1 and a skills test could allow progression onto a Level 2 programme in Hairdressing, Barbering or Beauty Therapy.
Three or more GCSEs at grades A*-G, including maths and English at grade 9-1 (A*-G).
You will work at your own pace throughout the course. Your competence will be assessed through practical observations, assignments and online theory tests. Each module taken will be graded on a pass, merit and distinction basis.
English and maths is embedded naturally into all classes. If are under the age of nineteen and have not achieved GCSE grade C or above will attend English and/or Maths GCSE or functional skills classes. English and communication skills are particularly important English. You need to be able to speak and listen to people of all ages, gender and social backgrounds. English skills will be further developed and embedded within your study of the curriculum. Your understanding of maths will be put to the test when calculating timings and developing pricings of treatments, amongst other things.
You will be expected to apply to local salons in order to gain valuable work experience, this will take place in the second term. This is an essential element of your study programme and you will be supported to ensure this takes place. Students will be required to undertake structured work experience that develops skills and knowledge relevant to the qualification. This will allow you to gain exposure to the sector you wish to work in, start to develop the key employability skills and give you the opportunity to network with a view to gaining employment.
Trips and visits will be planned throughout the course. A world of work week is included allowing you to train in the most up to date techniques, enhancing your skills.
You are required to buy a full uniform package that includes shoes and a watch.
