This Level 4 qualification is aimed at those working in hospitality and catering who are looking to advance their career and have the ambition to succeed. It could be the right course for you if you have a Level 3 qualification and want to develop into a senior managerial role, or in a supervisory role and want to progress further. This higher apprenticeship includes mandatory units and a range of optional knowledge and competence units. These will be chosen in discussion between yourself, your employer and your tutor, dependent on business needs. Structure of the apprenticeship is as follows: City and Guilds Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management - Managing supplier contracts, Reviewing the quality of customer service, Designing, implementing and managing a food safety management system, Managing the performance of teams and individuals, Managing purchasing costs in hospitality, Managing a team meeting, Recruiting and selecting hospitality staff, Managing front of house and guest relations. City and Guilds Level 4 Diploma in Principles of Hospitality Management: Understanding leadership and management in hospitality organisations, Understanding the market in which an organisation operates, Principles of financial performance management in hospitality operations, Principles of bar and cellar management, Understanding how to plan and manage kitchen operations, Understanding how to effectively manage the sales of hospitality services. This course will involve 20% of your time to be dedicated to off the job training.
You must be working in the Hospitality Industry in a role such as Deputy General Manager, Front Office Manager, Operations Manager or Unit Manager. This qualification provides a natural progression route for those who have completed Level 3 qualifications in Hospitality Management, Food and Beverage Supervision or Professional Cookery. You will need a dedication to taking on a greater volume and level of study than the Advanced apprenticeship or a Level 3 qualification.
Functional Skills are a vital part of your apprenticeship. They provide the essential knowledge, skills and understanding needed to operate confidently, effectively and independently. Functional skills are available at Level 1 and Level 2 and the level you will work towards will depend on the previous qualifications you have achieved, the results of an assessment prior to your apprenticeship and the requirements of the apprenticeship you are completing. If you have not already achieved Level 2 English and maths you must: • Study for and take the tests for Level 2 English and maths • Achieve Level 1 English and maths for Level 2 Apprenticeship
You will need to demonstrate technical knowledge and competence through complex work activities. Assessments are conducted in the workplace through observation of the duties carried out and a range of other methods, including witness statements, professional discussions and reflective accounts. The qualification is flexible to meet the needs of the job, however, home study and research will be required for assignments.
