If you have an aspiration to go to university or would like to improve your employment options but do not possess a GCSE in English Language, this course offers a fantastic progression opportunity. Engaging teaching and learning experiences will prepare you for two end of year exams: Paper 1 - Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing, looks at how writers use narrative and descriptive techniques to engage the interest of readers. Paper 2 -Writers' Viewpoints and Perspectives, looks at how different writers present a similar topic over time.
The topics covered include: Developing inference skills, Understanding fact, opinion and bias, Analysing language and structure in texts, Comparing and contrasting 19th century, 20th century and 21st century texts, Writing for specific purpose, Descriptive and narrative writing, Developing speaking and listening skills, Improving spelling and grammar.
This course is designed for adults (19+).
Attaining an English Language GCSE at Bury College can lead to a wide variety of further study options including an Access to Higher Education Diploma.
Successful completion of an initial assessment as well as an interview.
You will attend a weekly three hour class (day-time and evening classes available). Excellent attendance is critical.
