This work related qualification is the equivalent to three A Levels and will provide a progression pathway onto higher education, apprenticeships, advanced apprenticeships or employment across a wide range of industries. The course provides the opportunity to study all the different aspects of business, as well as improve your employability skills. You will develop good organisational and time management skills to meet regular coursework deadlines, communication skills to work in teams, and independent research and study skills that will be essential for higher education or the workplace.
Employment opportunities after studying business are very diverse. It provides the foundation knowledge that prepares you to specialise through your degree or career choice. There are many opportunities in supervisory and junior management roles in industries such as: administration, finance, accounting, law, retail, service industries, human resources, marketing, purchasing, training, general management or business ownership/entrepreneur.
Five GCSE grades A*-C (9-4 ), including maths and English or DD in BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business with maths and English at grades A*-C (9-4).
This is a full-time, two-year course starting in September.
The course consists of a range of mandatory, specialist and optional units studied over two years. You will be assessed by assignments set and marked by your tutors and tasks and written exams set and marked by Edexcel. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D) and your overall qualification will have three grades from PPP to D*D*D*. Mandatory units include: Exploring Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign (task set by Pearson), Personal and Business Finance (exam), Managing an Event, International Business, Principles of Management (task set by Pearson), Business Decision Making (task set by Pearson). There will be an additional six units.
To be successful in a business career you will need to have good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You will need to be good at problem solving; using creative thinking and decision-making skills. You will be required to use Microsoft software and business calculations to record, report, and plan for the future. You will also need to understand instructions, and organise your time to meet deadlines. These things will be daily features of working in the business sector, and this course will help you to develop these skills.
Work experience is an essential element of your Study Programme and you will be supported to secure a five day work experience placement. This will allow you to gain first hand exposure to the sector you wish to work in, start to develop key employability skills and most importantly confirm your career goals. Business students have recently had successful work experience placements in: Retail, Law and Accounting.
Your Business Study Programme will support personal development to ensure you make good progress and acquire the skills required for successful progression to employment, an apprenticeship or higher education. You will have the opportunity to take part in fundraising events, sport and fitness activities, course related study visits and careers events.
There may be an additional cost for coursework study visits.
