|Course Title||ABC Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants|
This course enables you to develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support individuals interested in working in the animal care sector. This qualification has been developed for those seeking a specialised qualification in animal nursing. The qualification is held in high regard in veterinary practices. It develops practical skills in animal care and management, while offering additional opportunities to hone customer service skills in a retail environment. You will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following: How to deliver basic treatments to animals, including cleaning and hygiene procedures, basic health care treatments, and other routine procedures, How to maintain animal accommodation, including providing feed and water to animals, The principles of infection control. Animal anatomy and physiology optional units include: Exotic Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Plan the Handling and Restraint of Animals, Animal Nutrition, and more. You will be assessed by written coursework and observation of your skills during practical activities.
You will study a range of topics including: Deliver basic treatments to animals, Maintain animal accommodation, Provide feed and water to animals, Principles of infection control for animal nursing assistants, Companion animal anatomy and physiology, Principles of companion animal anaesthesia and fluid therapy, Control and restrain animals, Principles of basic animal nursing assistance, Companion animal nutrition.
This course is designed for those who are seeking a specialised qualification in animal nursing.
You may progress onto a Level 3 course or HE courses.
Completion of the ABC Level 1 course or other relevant qualifications. You will be asked to attend an initial interview with the course lecturer.
You will attend class once a week on 6pm – 9pm. Full attendance is essential.

Bury College Animal Care students have completed a unique project with the Canal & River Trust, a charity which cares for the nation’s 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, which has provided learners with a rare opportunity to work on a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
