Overview of the Course

The Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts is a 10-week course which provides a crucial introduction to Counselling and a platform for further study in this area.

What topics will I study?

The topics covered include:

  • How counselling is different from other helping relationships.
  • An introduction to the different therapeutic models used in counselling.
  • Consideration of communication skills, for example, being aware of own body language and how to observe others; how to listen to what is not being said and how to ask questions.

You will be expected to write a reflective account each week based on self-analysis of your own skills, beliefs and any barriers. This will be included in your completed written portfolio and submitted at the end of the course.

Who is this course aimed at?

For those interested in exploring what counselling training entails, this qualification offers an accessible and practical introduction.


Those who complete this qualification may be able to progress to the ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills. For those who do not intend to continue their studies further into the field of counselling, the course can be a valuable introduction to communication skills transferable into a range of career and educational opportunities.

What are the entry requirements?

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment when you attend your interview.

You will attend weekly classes, Mondays 09.30–12.30 or Tuesdays 18:00-21:00.



Additional Information?

Each of the 10 sessions includes activities and working closely with other students. Respect and sensitivity is required throughout.
