|Course Title||ABC Level 1 Practical Small Animal Care|
This course enables you to develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support those interested in working in the animal care sector. This qualification provides a practical introduction. You will gain work-related skills in the area of animal care, gain insight into core activities within the sector, and prepare for further training. You will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following: • How to assist with the care of animals, including relevant animal welfare legislation, minimising stress and injury to the animals, and keeping people and animals safe whilst working • The principles of animal care, including monitoring the health of animals, providing feed and water, and workplace health and safety requirements • Optional units include: Assist with maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals, Animals in the wild and in society and assist with the handling and restraint of animals You will be assessed by written coursework and observation of your skills during practical activities.

You can progress onto the ABC Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistants course.
You will be asked to attend an initial interview with the course lecturer.
You will attend class once a week on 6pm – 9pm. Full attendance is essential.

Bury College Animal Care students have completed a unique project with the Canal & River Trust, a charity which cares for the nation’s 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, which has provided learners with a rare opportunity to work on a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
