Overview of the Course

An apprenticeship in Accounting is ideal for those who would like to pursue a career in accounting. This qualification can also lead onto a range of diverse careers that could include positions in business, banking or finance.

 

This advanced apprenticeship provides an invaluable mix of theoretical learning and practical training within many industries as a part-qualified Accounting Technician. This course will build on the theory learnt at level 2 with a variety of complex accounting processes, recording and accounting for fixed assets, VAT issues in business, ethics and a wide range of advanced spreadsheet tools and techniques. The apprentice will also learn about professional ethics and business law within the accounting sector.

 

Key units:

 

·         Understanding the accounting principles and concepts together with the double entry bookkeeping system

·         Accounting for non-current assets

·         Accounting for adjustments and preparing the extended trail balance

·         Producing final accounts for sole-traders and partnerships

·         Understanding VAT regulation and completing VAT form

·         Short term and long term decision making in a costing environment

·         Using spread sheets to enter, edit and organise data

·         Using tools and techniques within spreadsheets to present information

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are a vital part of the apprenticeship. They provide the essential knowledge, skills and understanding needed to operate confidently, effectively and independently. Functional Skills are available at Level 1 and Level 2 and the level the apprentice will work towards will depend on the previous qualifications achieved, the results of an assessment prior to the apprenticeship and the requirements of the apprenticeship they are completing.

Assessment

Development of the job role can be delivered exclusively by Bury College, co-delivered with a workplace mentor who will work alongside the Learning and Skills Coach to support and log the apprentice's progress. The dedicated, qualified Learning and Skills Coach will support the teaching and learning of the apprentice in their development of IT User Skills knowledge and competence in their work-based activities.

For the Level 3 AAT qualification, the Learning and Skills Coach will visit on a regular basis to support with developing the electronic portfolio which is used as evidence for the completion of the qualifications.  Assessment of the apprentice's progress in their workplace competencies involves:
