Building for the Future
Bury College - New Facilities
Enterprise Centre Development - Due for completion Autumn 2014
Bury College is once again expanding its town centre campus and developing its facilities. The college has plans in place to increase the existing Enterprise Centre on Market Street with a four storey extension that will be used to deliver higher level study programmes for undergraduates, advanced level apprentices and courses that aim to up-skill the workforce to meet the needs of businesses.
Over £4.3m has been invested in the improvements that will include the addition of purpose built classrooms and seminar rooms, meeting rooms, conference and lecture facilities. The building will enable students on university, adult and business courses at the college to benefit from a centre that has been built to specifically cater for their needs.
Venture Centre Development - Completed Autumn 2012
Work has now finished on the impressive five-storey extension at the college’s Venture Centre on Market Street.
Contractor Eric Wright Construction, part of the Preston-based Eric Wright Group won the contract for a new building at Bury College. The development features a range of green technologies and is constructed from a combination of brick, stone, cladding and glazed walls.
The building will enhance the existing learning facilities through inclusion of a brand new Learning Resource Centre and library; new industry standard Art Studios and improved IT resources.
The design will also build upon many existing features of the current building by adding a significant amount of new learning space, creating a pleasant and friendly learning environment, and through including an environmentally friendly central courtyard.
It marks the seventh stage of Bury College's redevelopment and takes investment across the campus over recent years to nearly £40m. Charlie Deane, the college's deputy principal, said: “Bury College is committed to meeting the complex and changing learning needs of our students and employer partners. “Providing high-class, contemporary facilities for our learners and staff is an important part of the process."
