Disabled Access
Bury College is committed to ensuring that disabled people, including those with learning difficulties are treated fairly. All College buildings and teaching and learning rooms are accessible to students with physical impairments. The main changing rooms for Catering, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy students at the Woodbury Centre are not accessible, but alternative changing facilities are available.
The College campus is now fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act Part 4. Alterations have
been made to improve accessibility for people with disabilities as follows:
Physical Access
The main entrances to all College buildings have now been automated. Doors on all main corridors are on hold open devices linked to the fire alarm to facilitate easier circulation around buildings. All WC's have had grab rails installed.
Visual Impairments
All circulation stairs have had colour-contrasting nosings installed; All buildings have extensive wayfaring signage, and all rooms have signs which are either tactile or have braille inserts; All lifts have noise communication; and All WC's have visual fire alarm beacons.
Hearing Impairments
Induction loops have been installed to all reception areas
and in a variety of specialist and general teaching rooms.
Portable induction loops are also available on request.
