Greater Manchester Colleges Group (GMCG)
Bury College is proud to be a member of the Greater Manchester Colleges Group (GMCG).
The GMCG represents and works on behalf of the 10 general further education colleges in the Greater Manchester area.
The member colleges have undertaken to deliver high-quality education and training to residents throughout Greater Manchester. The aim is to promote economic growth by creating rounded employees with the qualifications and skills needed by local employers.
The four cornerstones of the group are that member colleges should: be assets for local businesses and communities; deliver real results; work together to deliver growth, and be committed to Greater Manchester.
The GMCG member colleges educate, train and support 128,000 learners each year, from young people to adults, from all social backgrounds, from the academically most able to those who are physically and educationally disadvantaged, working towards all manner of qualifications, from entry-level to postgraduate.
In 2014, international consultancy Economic Modelling Specialists International (EMSI) calculated that the GMCG member colleges contributed around £3.1billion to the region’s economy every year. This was largely because of the increased earning power of students and former students, but also because of the social value of the education provided by the colleges in terms of savings in health, crime and unemployment.
