Get the most out of your Bury College experience and make a difference to our community by joining the Be Involved Group!

This student action group has been designed to give students a voice as well as an opportunity to discuss topics that you are passionate about.

The Be Involved Group will also be your chance to work on calendar events across the year and contribute to college-wide fundraising initiatives.

Sport and Physical Activity

Bury College have a dedicated Sport Enrichment Team who help to increase participation in sport and physical activity within college. They promote the benefits of staying physically active and encourage students to reach their potential. They are also committed to enhancing the student experience through a comprehensive activity programme.

Activities are open to all Bury College students who can also access free gym membership to the college gym and free swimming vouchers that can be used at local swimming pools.

* Sport Enrichment programmes are tailored by the demand from students with new activities being added each year. Sessions cater for all abilities from beginner to advanced level students. Please note provision may vary each year.

Sports Ambassador Scheme

This exciting initiative is open to all Bury College students that demonstrate hard work and commitment. You will gain new knowledge and experience by developing your leadership skills through sport. As part of the role you will:

 

  • Become a role model and advocate sport in college
  • Endorse the positive values of being physically active
  • Assist in session delivery
  • Raise the profile of Sport Enrichment across college

 

This role is open to all Bury College students with a selection process for new candidates taking place each year.

Sport Club/Community Links

We actively link with local sports clubs to ensure a development pathway for those students that would like to participate in sport outside of college. In order to provide sports sessions of the highest quality we use local Sports Club coaches to deliver sessions in college, strengthening the link with local clubs and giving students an exit route out into the community.

Educational Visits

As a student, you are invited to further enrich your learning experience by taking part in an exciting range of academic trips and visits. As part of your course, you may have the opportunity to take your learning outside of the classroom and enjoy educational trips in order to broaden your skills and abilities.

 

Some examples of these are:

  • Theatre or workshop trips
  • Sports trips
  • University visits including Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester and Durham
  • Visits to locations of interest such as Manchester Art Gallery, Liverpool and Albert Dock
  • National and international field trips such as Blencathra, Paris, Naples, Iceland, Edinburgh, Dusseldorf and New York
  • Recreational trips such as Blackpool and Chill Factor
  • Visits to employer premises
  • Courts of law, Army Training camps and Police and Fire stations

Progression

Bury College provides a range of A Levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships and university qualifications from Entry Level to Level 6; supporting your development and providing you with the opportunity to stay local and achieve your ambitions.

Scholarships

Bury College offers two scholarships to encourage participation in activities that can enhance your life experiences and give you additional skills.

Sports Scholarship

Bury College actively encourages students who excel in their sports to gain selection for regional and national teams. If you compete at this level, a Sports Scholarship of £150* is available to help provide some financial assistance. You do not have to be on a sport-related course to qualify for this Scholarship. Community Scholarship

If you are a student who actively volunteers in the community then you could be eligible for a Community Scholarship of £150*. This scholarship recognises the important work you carry out in the community to make a genuine difference to people’s lives. Apply now.

Virtual Learning

Bury College has a dedicated online learning platform called MyVLE. This provides access to your course resources, assignment briefs and other learning materials. Once you join the college you will have your own personal access and login to MyVLE.
