BURY COLLEGE FESTIVAL OF LEARNING AWARD WINNERS ENJOY PARLIAMENT VISIT

Following their inspirational award win at this year’s Festival of Learning Awards, Bury College received an exclusive invitation to attend a highly prestigious Parliamentary Reception.

Bury College and partners Bury Adult Learning were delighted to be announced as the 2018 winners of the Festival of Learning Project Award for their Big Lottery Funded community engagement projects Changing Lives (2012 to 2015) and No Barriers (2016 to 2019). The award recognises how these projects show an exceptional commitment to supporting adults in the Bury community through bespoke training sessions and access to accredited programmes of study.

The Parliamentary Reception was attended by all the Festival of Learning award winners, parliamentarians from both the House of Commons and House of Lords and many people who work in the adult learning and skills sector. This event was an opportunity to celebrate the success of the winners and remind parliamentarians and policy makers about the importance of adult learning and the positive impacts and benefits of adult learning on individuals, families, communities and employers.

The drinks and canapés Parliamentary Reception provided Bury College and partners with the opportunity to talk about No Barriers and Changing Lives and its impact on the most hard to reach communities in Bury. Staff also had the opportunity to discuss the importance of partnership work in developing a cohesive strategy for community engagement and adult education.

Rebecca Albrow, No Barriers Coordinator, said of the visit, “The Parliamentary Reception was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the exceptional work we are doing in Bury and showcase the partnerships that are being strengthen as a result of the project.  We were absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with MPs and discuss how we can make a sustainable impact on supporting adults in our community.”
