A former Bury College Catering student has cooked up career success after securing full-time employment at the award winning Slattery Patisserie and Chocolatier.
20 year old Rebecca left Bury College in June 2016 after progressing through the levels and securing a host of industry recognised qualifications. The former Broad Oak Sports College pupil achieved a Level 1 and Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery before progressing onto the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Patisserie and Confectionary where she discovered a real passion for the art.
Upon completion of her Catering courses, Rebecca gained a permanent job at Slattery’s in Whitefield, recognised as one of the UK’s finest patisserie and chocolatier which offers handmade luxury chocolates and cakes and ice-creams. Rebecca has a number of duties at the restaurant and helps to make desserts, serves at the front of house and assists the chefs.
Rebecca said, “I am really enjoying working within the Catering industry. I started working at Slattery’s during my studies at Bury College and once I completed my course I was awarded a full-time contract. It is great to be doing what I love and what I trained to do.”
Rebecca especially enjoys creating a range of exciting desserts and is responsible for trailing and tasting new desserts to add to the menu. In the future, Rebecca, who lives in Bury, would like to stay at Slattery’s and progress her career.
Rebecca added, “My time at Bury College was really good, I developed a lot of skills which I know use daily in my job such as time management, working at a fast pace and how to keep calm when under pressure. My tutors at college were very encouraging, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for their support.”
